Isa Goes To México

This year was my third time in México, and I must admit that I had a huge crush on Tulum. I've been to Puerto Vallarta, Cancún and Playa Del Carmen before, but Tulum is by far the most exotic and peaceful place. Tulum is a fortified Mayan city that was serving as a port a long time ago. Today, it’s a very ecological, restful and hip destination! Here are the things I recommend doing in Tulum.

Where to Stay

There are a lot of beautiful hotels near the beach on the main road, some hostels downtown, some camp sites, but I personally decided to book an Airbnb in the jungle with my boyfriend (2km away from the beach).

What to Do

Cenotes

Gran Cenote

The Gran Cenote is located a few kilometers away from Tulum. The price is $10 USD per person. You can rent some snorkeling gear and life jackets on site. The water is crystal clear so you can even see the fish without any gear. You have the option to do scuba diving as well.

Dos Ojos

Dos Ojos, which means “two eyes”, is a huge park located on the Highway between Tulum and Playa Del Carmen. It’s a 20-min drive from Tulum. The price is $22 USD, and it includes the life jacket and the snorkeling gear. Dos Ojos is in fact two different cenotes that are super clear, but super cold! The scenery is really beautiful and it’s apparently a good place to go scuba diving as well.

Misterio Cenote

Misterio Cenote is located at the end of Dos Ojos park. The price is also $22 USD per person, but I highly recommend it, more than Dos Ojos (do both if you can, but my favourite was Misterio)! You have a private guide to help you visit and go farther in the cenote through tunnels and paths that are only known by these private guides!

Mayan Ruins

Ruins are amazingly beautiful. The view of that Mayan City paired with the blue ocean is just breathtaking! The cost is about $25 USD for two people. You can also pay more to have a guide during your visit or to do some snorkeling along the coast (where you might see turtles)!

*Note that on Sundays, Mexican people have free access to the ruins. Thus, it’s really busier, so I highly suggest going on another day of the week.

Tulum Beach Road

Tulum beach road is just amazing. It’s full of little restaurants and cute happy hour spots on the beach. You can also rent a bicycle on that street and go for a little shopping session!

Where to Eat

Azulik

Amazing resort with private cabanas in the trees and a gorgeous view on the ocean!

Kin Toh

Azulik’s restaurant located... in the trees! One of the best dinners I've ever had in my life!

El Pez

El Pez is also a restaurant located near the ocean. I went there for breakfast and had a blast!

Casa Banana

Really nice steakhouse to go to for dinner.

Coco Tulum

Amazing resort on the beach! It’s also a good spot to go for drinks and food. A lot of couches and swing chairs as well as a DJ every Sunday afternoon!
