Brooklyn Shenanigans

As you may already know, New York is a city that I particularly like, and I try to visit every year. What's fun is that every little weekend trip has been completely different thus far.

This time, instead of focussing on spending time in Manhattan, I stayed in Brooklyn and mostly spent my time there. I was visiting my French friend Raphaëlla, who recently moved to NYC for work.

We started off by visiting her neighbourhood, Greenpoint, which offers wonderful views on Manhattan's skyline. We also had brunch at a really cute restaurant, Milk & Roses, before heading off to Manhattan later in the day for a boat cruise.

Indeed, Raphaëlla knows my love for electronic music, and god knows it's been really hard for me to find some good, not too intense, house music spots in Toronto during the past year. Thankfully, the night scene in the Big Apple offers many options for house music lovers. ZERO is a New York based promotional company that throws epic electronic music parties around the city, but also in some other big cities across the world. It turned out they were having their annual Monte-Carlo boat party that weekend, so we went there with her group of friends.

I was definitely expecting to hear some good beats, but what I wasn't expecting at all is the wonderful views on the city. It was basically a 5-hour city cruise with really good music and tons of fun.

The next day, we went to Mominette Bistro to have brunch in Bushwick, and then walked around to explore the surroundings. There's lot of cool street art to see, as well as people playing music and barbecuing on the sidewalks.

In the afternoon, we went to visit Manhattan's High Line, but were forced to come back home sooner than expected due to the extremely hot and humid weather. We then hung out in Williamsburg for a bit, and ended the day at Greenpoint's best pizzeria, Paulie Gee's!

*My only tip if you travel to NYC during the summer months is to be ready for the heat! It can get REALLY hot, so bring some light clothing, a hat, and always make sure you have some water on you!
