The Pearl of Algarve

The first time I moved to Paris was exactly five years ago. I remember being so nervous about spending that much time away from home, but also super excited, I really needed it. I spent 6 months in the City of Lights in total. During those months, I discovered Paris in a totally new way (eg. friends, nights out, restaurants, cultural stuff), I worked but more importantly, I travelled around Europe for the first time - how exciting!

My favourite type of destination has always involved being close to a beach. At the time, I had an extremely limited budget, and after asking for advice, people suggested the South of Portugal in a region called Algarve. I had seen pictures from a friend of mine (hello Maryse!) who had been there the year before, and I did not hesitate one second.

The initial plan was to spend a few days in a town called Lagos, then rent a car and explore a few places along the cost until we would reach Lisbon. Unfortunately, none of my friends and I were 25 years of age at the time, therefore renting a car was crazy expensive. We looked at other means of transportation, but trains and buses don't really help when the goal is to stop to secluded spots along the coast. Considering the tight timeline too, we decided to only stay in Lagos and make the most out of it! I'll go back another time to see what else this region has to offer 😏

What to do in Lagos?

  • Walk up the cliffs at Ponta da Piedade, and hike the whole trail along the sea.

  • Eat a burger at Nah Nah Bah, so yummy!

  • Book a boat tour, rent a kayak or do some stand-up paddle to explore the grotto near Ponta da Piedade.

  • Enjoy Happy Hour prices (usually 50% off everything) and party in downtown Lagos.

  • Get a beautiful tan at the beach. I recommend: Porto de Mós, Do Camilo, Dona Ana.

We weren't very lucky with the weather as it rained almost all week, but here are a few shots taken during the sunniest moments!
