The Blue Pearl of Morocco

Chefchaouen is located in the Northern part of Morocco - somewhere in the Rif mountains more precisely. It became very famous due to its different shades of blue. Many fashion photoshoots took place in that city. It can be visited as a day-trip from Tangier or Fès, I chose the latter since I ended up my desert trip in Fès. You can also stay there overnight, and visit the waterfall that is located closeby the next day.

Like most Moroccan excursions, you can book it with travel agencies or directly via your hotel (cheaper). Since I arranged my trip to the blue pearl pretty last minute, I sent an email to my host in Fès, and they booked a private taxi for me. I actually ended up going with Kristine and Daniella, two girls I met in the desert!

The road from Fès to Chefchaouen is long (3 hours) but very scenic. One thing that surprised me the most during my trip to Morocco is how much landscapes change drastically from one place to another. Once you get there, the best thing to do is just to walk around and get lost in the medina - trying to find the best spots to take photos. To get a nice view over the city, I suggest going to Restaurant Aladin's rooftop. Their food is also really good!

Fun fact:  I learned that Chefchaouen is also super famous for its weed production. A lot of weed grows in the area, and there is a lot of people visiting the city to test it out!
