Explore Paradise: A 10-Day Adventure through Fiji's Dreamy Islands

Get ready for the most amazing tropical journey as I unveil the beauty of Fiji through my 10-day itinerary. Dive into the heart of this South Pacific paradise, explore its cultural richness and idyllic weather. The best time of the year to enjoy its wonders is usually between May and September. Fiji is renowned for its warm hospitality and vibrant culture, and I can confirm that this is true. Fijians are some of the most happy, curious, respectful and welcoming people I have met!

Fiji

A little paradise in the Pacific Ocean

Viti Levu (2 days)

Your Fiji journey begins in Nadi, the gateway to the nation. Base yourself here for a taste of the Fijian culture.

  • Explore Wailoaloa Sandy Beach, where Club 57 offers delicious food and breathtaking views. Later in the day, immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Smugglers and don't miss one of their fire shows on the beach at night.

  • Venture into Nadi town to visit the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple and wander around the local market, where you can experience the lively hustle and bustle. Don’t expect too much from Nadi though, as the town itself isn’t particularly beautiful.

  • Indulge in a delightful breakfast or dinner at Port Denarau, which is a mandatory stop on your journey since all ferries depart from there. Treat yourself to a nice meal from Cardo’s Steakhouse, which has an amazing water view, or opt for Nadina; they offer traditional Fijian cuisine.

  • For a luxurious day, visit the Fiji Marriott Resort in Momi Bay, where the Fish Bar awaits with seaside adult-only dining. This idyllic resort offers day passes for visitors who are not staying at the hotel; the perfect escape.

  • Head south to Natadola Beach for a relaxing day of sun, sea, and optional beach activities. Unwind with a massage or partake in various beachside activities offered from the local tour companies.

The Mamanucas (2 days from Viti Levu)

Discover the charm of the Mamanuca Islands, the closest and most accessible ones from Nadi.

  • Dive into crystal-clear waters with a day trip to Cloud 9, a floating bar in the middle of the ocean. Experience epic moments, especially during events featuring international DJs.

  • Another exciting day trip, courtesy of Cruising Fiji, takes you to Castaway Island (Modriki) and two other beautiful islands. Be cautious not to confuse this tour with a similar-sounding tour focused on beach resort activities. Enjoy the serene beaches of Modriki (where they actually shot the movie Castaway) and explore its lush interiors. Take in the stunning scenery and vibrant marine life that these islands have to offer.

The Yasawas (4 days)

Explore the dreamy beaches of the Yasawa Islands, the main reason why most people come to Fiji. One could easily spend their entire holiday here! This archipelago is a paradise that comes at a cost. Indeed, it isn’t cheap to come here. I would recommend purchasing the Bula Pass for flexible island transfers. Make sure to spend at least 3 or 4 days in the area for the experience to be worth it.

  • Stop at Barefoot Manta on Drawaqa Island for epic snorkeling and the chance to encounter manta rays. Experience the serenity of Thuvu Bay at sunrise. Immerse yourself in the local culture and join in traditional Fijian activities offered by the resort.

  • Continue your Yasawa adventure to the Blue Lagoon Resort on Nacula Island, which offers access to the famous Sawa-i-Lau cave. There’s plenty of other things to do on the island such as their stunning mountain hike and a visit to the local village of Nacula.

Important: Be prepared for extra daily fees for food (and these can get quite expensive - check each hotel website), as these remote islands rely on regular boat deliveries. Embrace the local cuisine and savour the unique flavours of Fijian dishes.

Taveuni (2 days)

Escape to Taveuni for a different Fijian vibe, characterised by lush forests, scenic waterfalls, and crystal-clear waters. Two days is definitely not enough to fully enjoy this island, but it’ll allow you to experience its main highlights. It’s worth nothing that the flights to get there aren’t cheap so plan accordingly!

  • Stay at Raitotoka Eco Resort in Matei for incredible views. Immerse yourself in the local culture and enjoy the warm hospitality of the resort staff.

  • Embark on the Lavena Coastal Walk, a 10km round-trip hike to Wainibau Falls in Bouma National Heritage Park – possibly my favourite part of the trip! Don’t miss another shorter hike to Tavoro Falls on your way back from Lavena.

  • Dive into the vibrant underwater world by booking a tour to the Somosomo Strait to witness the mesmerizing colors of the Rainbow Reef. Discover the rich marine biodiversity and coral formations in this renowned diving spot with Taveuni Ocean Sports.

  • Savour the ocean views at The Dive Cafe Bar & Grill, one of the few dining options on the island. Enjoy a fusion of international and Fijian flavours against the backdrop of stunning ocean views.

As my Fijian adventure draws to a close, my only regret is not extending my stay to experience the shark dive with Barefoot Kuata in the Yasawa Islands. Learn from my experience and consider adding a day or two to your itinerary for this unforgettable encounter with the ocean's most majestic creatures. Experience the thrill of swimming with sharks in the pristine waters of the Yasawa Islands!
