Coron, which is located on the island of Busuanga, was my favourite destination on this trip! I clearly didn’t expect this because Johanne and I had only planned 2 days there :-( I wish we would have stayed longer. The beauty of this place is unreal. It’s still very much preserved from mass tourism and even the most popular spots aren’t crowded. It’s a very peaceful island to visit and I cannot recommend it enough. In this blog post, I’ll try to detail everything I’ve seen within just two days. We came directly by boat from Palawan (PHP1,848) but there’s also an option to fly there from El Nido. It’s more expensive though (PHP3,183).

Where to stay?

There aren’t many hotels on the island and most of them are pretty basic. One option that I would have considered if we had travelled there longer was staying on a boat for a few days and cruising around Palawan. Instead, we rented a room at Princess of Coron, which is a 5 minute drive from the port. The place was alright, the room was clean and there was hot water!

Where to eat?

Most day trips have lunch included on the boat, therefore we only had one meal in Coron. There aren’t that many options for westerners on the island, so we chose to go to La Sirenetta. Because I got very sick in El Nido, I didn’t want to take any risk eating somewhere shady; my stomach was still fragile. This restaurant was a safe bet. They offer a wide variety of food (Asian, European, American, etc.) and the view is beautiful. It’s right by the water!

What to do?

Just like in El Nido, the main thing to do here is to go island hopping because most places aren’t located on the main island. We booked all our excursions with Jannet & Dexter Coron Boat Rental because we wanted to go on private tours, and we were happy with their service.

Coron Ultimate Day Tour

This tour highlights all the most scenic and popular tourist spots close to the main port of Coron. Despite most of the stops being popular, I didn’t feel like they were too crowded. We were able to enjoy each of them almost by ourselves!

Private Boat Rental: PHP 2,700

National Park Fee: PHP 1,000-1,200 per person

*Note that for all private tours, they charge extra for your lunch and if you want to use snorkling gear and/or kayaks.

Island Escapade Tour

The next day, we woke up for sunrise because we knew we had a 2-hour boat ride ahead of us to reach our first destination. In total, we visited 4 different islands that aren’t popular at all (yet!) Everything we saw that day seemed like it was out of a dream. Pristine waters, endless white sand beaches, healthy coral reefs, clown fish, and so much more.

Mount Tapyas Sunset Hike

After we returned to the main port, we took a tuk-tuk to go to Mount Tapyas for sunset. You really shouldn’t miss this place while in Coron, even if it’s just for a short hike, the view is magical.
